6 Foods To Avoid When You're Trying To Conceive
Today, I will share the top 6 foods to avoid when you're trying to conceive. Stay tuned! You want your diet to be at its best when trying to conceive.
What you eat now can affect your egg health, conceivable changes, and your baby's epigenetics when you conceive.
Usually, I like to think about what to eat instead of what not to eat, but I hear this question repeatedly, so I put my hands on 6 Things to break out from your diet.
But just remember:
Kill the messenger!!
- Number one on the list is soft drinks. A large study found that women who had consumed at least one can of soft drink per day had a 25 percent reduced chance of conceiving. Well, please don't kid yourself by saying, ' I just drink a soft drink a couple of days a week;' it all adds up. Sugar affects your insulin production, which has a domino effect on your other fertility hormones, so I urge you to reduce all foods loaded with sugar.
- That includes biscuits and cakes. This brings me to number two: diet soft drinks. If you thought you would automatically turn to diet soft drinks, think again. A study of 524 women with IVF showed that the eggs of those who regularly drank sugar-free foods filled with artificial sweeteners were 53% fewer. It's likely to be of better quality than usual. So you should avoid these misfortunes and drink water or milk instead.
- Number three on my list is alcohol. I know this causes problems for many women, especially those who struggle to conceive because if you're pregnant, you don't want people to question you constantly. But generally, being a non-drinker or an occasional drinker is safer for our well-being. Unlike the common belief, it is not until after menopause that alcohol has any health benefits for women. Now, you may have learned that the alcohol and fertility research is still uncertain, and that is valid. Drinking too much alcohol and drinking alcohol close to trying to conceive have both been found to reduce chances of conception, but the question for many women becomes, How many can I get away with one of them?
- To summarize the research underway, the more you drink, the longer it can take to conceive. Based on the latest research available, if you would like me to put a number on it, I would suggest you have less than one drink per week, and no, you can't have two drinks every second week! Alcohol has been shown to decrease implantation rates, affect ovulation, and increase miscarriage rates, and is high in calories, but for most of us, we should have sparkling water instead.
Be honest, and do what you can to reduce your saturated fat intake.
- Number five goes to foods wrapped in plastic. I know this is a broad category, but selecting only one food took a lot of work. BPA, or bisphenol A as it's actually named, is a chemical used in producing polycarbonate plastics. BPA has been found to impact our hormones. Although there's no concrete evidence of it directly affecting fertility, it is generally recommended that women trying to conceive, pregnant mothers, and infants have minimal exposure.
- The easiest way to decrease your BPA consumption is to stop placing plastic containers in a dishwasher or microwave-use glass, porcelain, or stainless steel containers for hot foods and liquids-Reduce your intake of canned goods, and- Scan for BPA-free plastic goods if you are purchasing plastic packaged items. This leaves us with food number 6.. drumroll, please... Position number 6 goes to Flake. Although fish is good for us, a flake is a shark, not a fish. As sharks eat fish, they are often one of the highest sources of mercury, which, if overconsumed, can lead to developmental and learning delays in your baby.
Obviously, fish and chips are not an ideal meal when you plan to conceive, but if you're the only choice, opt for some grilled fish and salad. Please ensure that you order some kind of fish, like Hoki, rather than a flake so that you have less mercury.
OK, to summarise, I'd recommend limiting:- Soft drinks and other sugar-laden foods and drinks- Diet soft drinks and other foods containing artificial sweeteners- Alcohol - Bacon and other foods high in saturated fat — Foods and beverages at risk of contamination with BPA, and — Foods high in mercury like flakes.
So, you should start thinking by now, "What should I eat then?
